SCOPE

This year, we are excited to host the joint EI2N and NSF Information Centric Engineering and Cybertechnologies (ICE) workshop. Through this joint forum, we seek to increase the impact of our activities related to information centric and cybertechnologies for engineering contexts.

It is a fact that enterprises need to collaborate in order to prosper in the current extreme dynamic and heterogeneous business environment. Enterprise integration, interoperability and networking are the major disciplines that explore ways enterprises in today’s IT intensive global environments can collaborate and communicate in the most effective way. These disciplines are well-established and are supported by international conferences, initiatives, groups, task forces and European projects where different domains of knowledge have been considered from different points of views and a variety of objectives (e.g., technological or managerial).

Enterprise Integration involves breaking down organizational barriers to improve synergy within the enterprise so that business goals are achieved in a more productive and efficient way. Enterprise Modelling, Architecture, and Ontology are the pillars supporting the achievement of Enterprise Integration and Interoperability. It is also important to note that the impact of cyber technologies and collaborative techniques on innovative engineering approaches and practices have been significant worldwide. Rapid advances in Internet technologies and Virtual Reality based engineering approaches have catalyzed the evolution of an interdisciplinary field called ‘Information Centric Engineering’ (ICE).

This sixth edition of the workshop is organised as a Venue of Experts, part of the OTM’2011 Federated Conferences. It seeks to bring together leading researchers to discuss the challenges and opportunities in ICE in the context of emerging and traditional engineering process domains.

TOPICS OF INTEREST

It aims at identifying issues in Applications of Interoperability in Enterprise Integration and Networking that will be developed in future research projects. The objectives of this joint workshop include the following:

(i) Identify challenges in Applications of Interoperability in Enterprise Integration and Networking that will be developed in future research projects

(ii) Assess and discuss the state of the art and impact of information centric cyber engineering on emerging and traditional process domains

(iii) Identify specific ‘bottleneck’ areas which need to be addressed by further research as well as explore ideas for future collaborative research in ICE in the context of identified process domains; subsequently, develop white papers related to these findings for submission to NSF.

(iv) Discuss the creation of advanced ICE oriented Test Beds and ‘collaboratories’ which will foster closer collaborative ties among the workshop participants.

Emerging process domains include nano/micro manufacturing, biomedical engineering; traditional process domains include high volume systems (automobile assembly, aircraft design, etc.), supply chain integration and related areas.
A keynote speaker and a plenary session will be jointly organized with the CoopIS 2011 conference.

The main goal of this workshop is to provide a forum for practitioners and researchers interested in enterprise integration, interoperability and networking and other ICE topics to exchange research and implementation ideas, share the most exciting results and develop road maps for the future with an emphasis on international partnerships.
It offers for practitioners and researchers with diverse backgrounds, an opportunity to present research papers, share experiences, and participate in open discussions. Relevant topics include, but are not limited to, theoretical and/or empirical exploration of enterprise models, tools and theories, as well as case studies and practices related to:

  • Enterprise Integration Modelling, Approaches, and Methodologies
  • Interoperability of Enterprise Systems
  • Global Environment for Network Innovations (GENI) and Future Internet Enterprise Systems
  • Interoperability in the context of Internet of Things and Internet of Services
  • Virtual Engineering / Prototyping approaches and technologies
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering
  • Business Process Modelling and Languages
  • Business Process vs. Business Intelligence
  • Semantic Technologies and Ontology for Interoperability of Enterprise Applications
  • Cloud Computing and Wireless Techniques in Enterprise Integration
  • Interoperability in the context of collaborative networked organisations
  • Enterprise reference models and their verification, validation, and accreditation
  • Service Science
  • Enterprise Interoperability as a Science
  • Case Studies in Enterprise Integration and Interoperability

IMPORTANT DATES

  • Workshop Abstract Submission Deadline: June 22 - EXTENDED June 29
  • Workshop Paper Submission Deadline:  July 06  - EXTENDED July 12
  • Acceptance Notification:  August 08
  • Camera Ready Due:  August 22
  • Author Registration Due:  August 22

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Each submitted paper will be refereed by at least three members of the Workshop Program Committee, based on its originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of expression. Submissions must be in English, and may be of two types: Full Papers or Short Papers, both of which may discuss industrial experience or academic research.
Full Papers should not exceed 5,000 words (excluding references and appendices), and should not exceed 10 pages in the final camera-ready format. Short papers should not exceed 5 pages in the final camera-ready format. Only electronic submissions in Adobe PDF format are acceptable.

The final workshop proceedings will be published by Springer Verlag as LNCS (Lecture Notes in Computer Science). Author instructions can be found at: http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html

Additionally, extended versions of the best papers from the Workshop may be considered for a submission in a special issue of an International Journal.

Failure to commit to presentation at the workshop automatically excludes a paper from the Conference Proceedings. The paper submission site can be found at: http://onthemove-conferences.org/index.php/submitpaper.

WORKSHOP FORMAT ORGANISATION

The Workshop Program will be scheduled for two and a half days duration and it will be organized with oral presentations of papers interspersed with group discussions. At the end of the Workshop, a plenary panel will summarize the results, and a report will be prepared.
